I have to admit, I get really anxious when I don’t have any control over how things are going to turn out.
Reading that statement, you’d probably assume that I must be anxious all the time! Sure, there are many things within in my control, depending on how I handle them. However, there are also a ton of events and circumstances beyond my control.
The truth is that we will face many times of uncertainty in our lives. It is inevitable. It is not a matter of if. It is always a matter of when.
As I write this post, our world is grappling with the news of a rapidly evolving pandemic known as COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease 2019) an infectious disease caused by a novel (new) coronavirus.
Many people, including myself, will inevitably be affected by this invisible threat. Some will be infected with the virus itself, even if only experiencing mild symptoms. However, many will feel the economic and financial burden as a result of it.
If you have stumbled upon this post during the COVID-19 pandemic please know that you are not alone. Any fears, worries, and doubts you’re having are normal. Please don’t allow anyone to shame you for your feelings.
As I’ve navigated a new normal over these past few weeks, I began thinking about how I can not only survive, but thrive, despite this time of uncertainty.
What exactly do I mean by thrive?
Now, I know that many of you may be thinking that thrive is an odd word to use during a crisis, such as COVID-19. I understand.
However, thriving isn’t just about gaining monetary wealth or prosperity. It’s also not solely related to personal growth or development.
Thriving isn’t about forcing yourself to work on projects, be productive, or stay busy. Again, nothing at all wrong with these things, as long as they are already part of your routine. And, as long as you’re not using them as unhealthy distractions. We’ll talk more about that below.
The truth is that you can also thrive by just being still. By practicing good self-care, making intentional choices, and being kind to yourself.
In today’s video, I share my thoughts on how you too can thrive during uncertain times.
